A female composer, Louise Farrenc ventured into the domain which was deemed to be exclusively reserved to ‘Great Men’: the symphony. And with stunning results! Energetic, melodic, inventive and balanced – Farrenc sounds like a French Mendelssohn. Schumann was one of her many admirers at the time. His Cello Concerto is one of the most beautiful works that have ever been written for the instrument. International top performer Johannes Moser plays it with a poignant mixture of grace and vigour.
