Franz Schubert (1797-1828)
Symphony no. 4 ‘Tragic’
Written shortly before his death, Mozart's Clarinet Concerto reflects both his appreciation of the clarinet and his unmistakable proximity to death. This thread runs through the whole programme: Schubert also felt the end approaching, while Strauss tried to avoid the inevitable. Arvo Pärt, on the other hand, finds inspiration in death. A dynamic spectacle is guaranteed, as Valentin Uryupin takes on the role of both conductor and soloist.
