Ninth Symphony 'From the New World'
Youth orchestra SOV Young's autumn project dives into Dvořák, Milhaud and a brand new one-minute-symphony by Linde Huygens as part of the SOV Composers' Academy. The young musicians aged between 14 and 20 will be coached throughout the week by musicians from Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen. Led by conductor Nicolás Paqsuet, they will shine during final concerts in Bruges, Ghent and Nieuwpoort.
During this project, an SOV Young soloist will also share the stage with the youth orchestra. Young saxophonist Ties Van Echelpoel (°2008) shines during Darius Milhaud's Scaramouche. Because of its catchy rhythms, Scaramouche became Milhaud's most popular work.
To end the concert, the young musicians perform Dvořák's Ninth Symphony “From the New World”. Inspired by the culture and music of Native Americans from North America, this symphony quickly became one of the most popular symphonies of its time. Today, it remains one of the most played symphonies of the Romantic era.
