SOV Young is a symphonic youth orchestra by and for young people aged between 14 and 20, based in Ghent. Each year they are coached during two projects by musicians from Flanders Symphony Orchestra, with as grand finale, a public concert. The programme covers an iron repertoire with a contemporary twist. For this project, Flanders Symphony Orchestra works together with the Ghent Royal Conservatory.
The artistic direction is led by Martijn Dendievel, assistant conductor of Flanders Symphony Orchestra.
PROJECT 2 | J. Brahms
The second project took place during the summer holidays from 26 to 29 August 2019 at the Ghent Royal Conservatory. To round off 3 intense rehearsal days, the young musicians led by assistant conductor Martijn Dendievel performed a real closing concert in the MIRY Concert Hall.
On the programme:
- Johannes Brahms - Hungarian Dances (No. 5 & 7)
- Johannes Brahms - Symphony No. 1, op. 68
PROJECT 1 | D. Brossé & A. Dvořák
SOV Young got off to a flying start during the Easter holidays from 17 to 20 April 2019. Under the guidance of assistant conductor Martijn Dendievel, the musicians rehearsed for three days preparing themselves for a blast of a final concert in the MIRY Concert Hall of the Ghent Royal Conservatory.

The Flanders Symphony Orchestra devotes every attention to both young talent and talent development. New courses provide additional support and guidance.
